A second woman has been arrested in connection with the death of a woman who died in an arson attack on a house.

Nusarat Bugum, 36, was killed in the attack on a house in Speedwell Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, on Monday morning.

West Midlands Police said they had arrested a 30-year-old woman from Small Heath on suspicion of murder.

Detectives have been given a further 36 hours to question a 38-year-old woman who was arrested on Monday. A 21-year-old man, also arrested on Monday, has been bailed pending further enquiries.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established but police said initial indications suggest it was set deliberately near the front door in what is described as a targeted attack.

Two women and a man were also injured while trying to escape the blaze.

A 34-year-old man and two women, aged 55 and 23, who are believed to have jumped out of upstairs windows in the property, remain in hospital but their injuries are not life threatening, West Midlands Police said.

Miss Bugum, who is from Pakistan, was in the UK to visit her parents who both live in Birmingham. She had been in the country since May.

West Midlands Police said the victim's family are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers.

Anyone with information which may help the investigation is asked to call West Midlands Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
