Police investigating the fatal stabbing of a woman have charged a man with the attempted murder of her suspected killer in Northamptonshire.

Jake Dean Swords, 27, is due to appear at Northampton Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning after being accused of trying to kill the murder suspect, also aged 27.

A 25-year-old woman, named locally as mother-of-two Levi Davis, died in Wellingborough Road, Rushden, on Saturday night.

A 27-year-old man remains in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of murder.

The fatal stabbing took place following an “altercation” between the occupants of a VW Polo that collided with a Vauxhall van, police said. It is not being treated as a random attack.

A 13-year-old boy was also arrested on suspicion of murder but was released on Sunday night with no further action to be taken against him.

Detective Inspector Pete Long said: “This was an extremely tragic incident in which a young woman has lost her life and I want to reassure people that we are doing all we can to bring those responsible to justice.

“A large team of detectives have been working on this case around the clock and a number of lines of inquiry are being pursued as part of this fast-paced investigation.”
