A man has been raped in a ‘ruthless’ attack in a Manchester park, police have said.

Police say two men were involved in the assault, with holding the victim down while the other carried out the attack. A man hunt for the pair is now underway.

Authorities say the 36-year-old alleged victim was sitting on a bench in Broadfield Park in Rochdale at 18:30 on Tuesday, when he was approached by two unknown men.

A man and woman spotted the attack and shouted at the attackers, upon which they fled. The identity of the couple is unknown and police are now appealing for them contact them in order to assist with their investigation.

Detective Inspector Damian Simpson, from the Greater Man Police, said: “This was a ruthless attack which terrified the victim and caused him lasting emotional distress.

“I am appealing to the two witnesses who disrupted the offenders to please get in touch. Your actions are likely to have saved the victim from suffering even further at the hands of his attackers and your co-operation could be of significant value to our investigation.

“In addition, I would ask that anyone else who was in the park at that time, or anyone who recognises the description of either offender, to please contact us.”

The first alleged attacker is described as being Asian, of large build, with black hair and a goatee and aged in his late twenties or early thirties. He was described as wearing dark clothing and footwear with a red heel at the sole.

The second alleged attack is described as Asian, clean shaven , of large build and also aged in his early twenties or late twenties. He was described as wearing a grey hoodie with Nike written across his chest and grey tracksuit bottoms.
