Robber raped woman who bandaged up his injured hand after he broke into her house
Andrei Makara threatened victim with scissors before attacking her
A robber raped a woman who had just bandaged up his injured hand after he broke into her house.
Andrei Makara, 40, threatened the victim with scissors before attacking her in her home in Brent, north-west London.
Moments earlier the 31-year-old woman, fearing for her safety, had tended to Makara’s hand after he injured it forcing his way into the house through a locked door.
She also offered him her bank card in exchange for her safety after a break-in at 10.40am on 24 July.
Makara, of no fixed address, then grew aggressive and raped the victim.
Afterwards, he demanded the victim hand over her bank card and pin number and threatened to kill her if the number was wrong.
Makara then stole a bike belonging to the victim’s husband and fled.
Police said the ordeal left the woman so deeply traumatised she was forced to move house within days.
Makara was later arrested and pleaded guilty to two counts of rape, robbery and assault by penetration at Harrow Crown Court on Thursday.
He will be sentenced on 26 September.
Detective Constable Alan Wong, of the Metropolitan Police’s sexual offences unit, said: “I would like to commend the victim for her bravery and having the courage to report the incident to the police.
“Her evidence was vital in ensuring a dangerous individual has been brought to justice.
“Understandably she has been left deeply traumatised, even having to move house within days. I hope today’s conviction will give her some measure of comfort and closure.”
