Teenager arrested for murder after man dies following single punch outside nightclub
The 48-year-old victim smashed his head on floor after being felled by hit
A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a man who was punched outside a nightclub on Friday night.
The 48-year-old victim smashed his head on the floor after being felled by a single hit in Reading at around 11.30pm, police said.
Officers were called to the town’s Friar Street near the late night Matchbox cocktail bar following reports of an altercation between the two men.
The victim - who is understood to have known his suspected attacker - was taken to hospital but later died, officers with Thames Valley Police revealed.
The 18-year-old, from the village of Crowthorne in Berkshire, was detained shortly afterwards and remained in police custody on Saturday.
Detective Inspector Sally Spencer said she was now appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
She said: "I understand that this news will be a concern to people, but I would like to reassure them that a thorough investigation is underway and that we have made an arrest.
"We believe this was an isolated incident in which the men involved were known to each other.
"I would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time this occurred, and who may have witnessed an assault taking place."
She added: "If you saw this, or have any information which you think could help our investigation, no matter how insignificant it may seem, please call the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number on 101.”
