RAF Marham abduction: Intended victim said his world has been turned upside down

An airman, who was the target of an attempted abduction outside an RAF base, has said the violent incident has turned "his world upside down".

The married man in his 20s was running in the Norfolk village of Marham around 3:10pm on 20 July when he was ambushed by two men.

He explained that as he was passing the RAF military base, one of the men tried to drag him towards a nearby car.

The serviceman told Norfolk Constabulary he knocked the first attacker down, but his accomplice, who was armed with a knife, helped him up before the pair fled.

The police will be appealing for information about the two attackers on BBC's Crimewatch programme on 4 September.

In a clip from the programme, the victim said (through an actor): "This whole event has turned my world upside down. The outcome could have been a lot more severe, but it's the 'what ifs', you know?

"Not being able to see my wife again, not being able to see my family again.

"I knew what I had to do to get away. I was fighting for my life. I won't let this stop me from doing things I need to do, but it does affect you emotionally."

The police said that both suspects were described as being between the age of 20 and 30.

The first was said to be about 6ft and athletic but stocky, and wearing casual clothing. He had dark hair, which was long on top, a well-groomed beard, and dark skin tone.

The second suspect was described as younger and slimmer than the first. He was about 5ft 10 ins, clean shaven with short dark hair and wore a white T-shirt and dark shorts. He may have also sustained a face injury during the incident when he was trying to defend himself.
