Police were hunting a car thief today who drove at a pregnant woman as he made off in her BMW.

The 33-year-old woman, who is six months pregnant, escaped with minor injuries after being thrown on to the bonnet before falling off.

The theft took place outside her home in Cleveland Road, South Woodford, north east London at about 11.30am on Wednesday, December 23.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said the woman was in the house when she saw the man attempting to drive her grey BMW 320D away.

She went outside and the suspect drove the car at her, throwing her on to the bonnet and carrying her along for several metres.

The woman was taken to an east London hospital with minor injuries and later released. The unborn baby was unharmed.

The vehicle has the registration number EY07 LMX and the suspect was described as white, aged between 28 and 32, clean shaven and with short, brown hair.

The spokesman said: "Officers would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have seen the car or been offered a vehicle of similar description for sale."
