£4m cocaine seized from lorry at docks

Cocaine with an estimated street value of £4 million has been seized from a lorry, the UK Border Agency (UKBA) said today.
Lorry driver Antanas Adomeckis, 50, was charged with drug smuggling after being arrested at the inward freight controls at Eastern Docks in Dover on March 27.
UKBA officers searched the vehicle and found a number of taped blocks hidden inside drums in the lorry's load. The blocks, weighing around 264lb (120kg), tested positive for cocaine.
Adomeckis, of Knockbridge in Dundalk, Ireland, was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Dover Magistrates' Court later today.
Officials use hi-tech search equipment to detect drugs, restricted goods and to combat immigration crime, a UKBA spokesman said.
Detection dogs, carbon dioxide detectors, heartbeat monitors and scanners are among the tools at the disposal of officers to cut crime at the UK's borders.
