£10m cannabis haul at port
Cannabis worth £10m was seized in one of the biggest hauls intercepted in the UK, customs officials said today.
The 3.5-tonne stash arrived at the port of Felixstowe, in Suffolk, hidden in a consignment from Ghana.
Hundreds of packets of the drug were concealed beneath the false bottom of a container.
A spokesman for the UK Border Agency said: "This is one of the biggest hauls of cannabis ever seized in the UK.
"Officers at Felixstowe examining the load were expecting personal and household effects, as the documentation described.
"However, when they opened the container a very powerful smell indicating large quantities of cannabis hit them."
He said no arrests had been made but inquiries were continuing.
