A pony that was believed to have been pushed to its death in a lake really died accidentally.
The animal died in Hawley Lake in Farnborough, Hampshire, at around 5pm on Saturday, after a group of 12 people with three ponies and traps gathered there.
Hampshire police received conflicting stories about what happened, but said today the pony died in an accident.
A 21-year-old man who tried to rescue the animal was injured when it kicked him and he was treated at Frimley Park Hospital.
Chief Inspector Sarah Jackson said: "There would have been a number of people around at the time, including dog walkers, runners, cyclists, fishermen and other members of the public.
"I would urge anyone who was in the area of Hawley Lake at the time, heard or saw what took place at the lake, or who has any information about this incident to contact us as soon as possible."
