Police suspect ecstasy caused clubbers' deaths

Clubbers who went to parties in Alexandra Palace in London this weekend were last night urged to contact health authorities after the deaths of two men suspected of taking ecstasy.
The men, aged 20 and 21, were admitted to hospital yesterday and died within seven hours of each other. The 21-year-old is thought to have attended a party called Bass Culture, which started on Friday and continued into Saturday. The 20-year-old is believed to have been at a night called Epic, which started on Saturday and ran into Sunday. Police said the men may have taken MDMA – the chemical name for ecstasy.
A second 20-year-old man, who was also believed to have attended the event on Saturday, was admitted to hospital and yesterday remained in a serious but stable condition.
The Metropolitan Police said the cause of the deaths was yet to be established, but confirmed that one line of inquiry was that the men may have taken illegal substances – possibly MDMA.
They issued an urgent appeal for other clubbers who felt ill to seek medical attention following the deaths. Detective inspector Rita Tierney said: "If you have taken what you believed to be MDMA, or any other substance, during these events, and are feeling unwell, I would urge you to attend your nearest hospital as soon as possible."
