The bodies of a man and woman have been discovered at a house, police said today.

The deaths at the property in Skelmersdale, Lancashire, were being treated as "unexplained".

Police were called to an address in Willow Hey just before 8pm yesterday.

A Lancashire Police spokeswoman said: "Inside the property were the bodies of a man and a woman.

"At this stage their deaths are being treated as unexplained.

"The identities of the two people are known but the families are currently being informed."

It is understood the man and woman were a middle aged couple.

Police cordons were in place at either end of the row of terrace houses on a 1960s estate.

An upstairs window was open at the two-storey property where the bodies were found.

One neighbour said screams were heard coming from the house last night.
