Police officer quits over palace urinating shame
A senior police officer from Cleveland has resigned after he was caught urinating against the Lithuanian president's palace.
Chief Superintendent Kevin Pitt, 49, was caught on CCTV cameras after a night out on Wednesday, given a ticket for violating public order and later fined. He offered his resignation to the Cleveland Chief Constable, Barry Shaw, on returning to Britain on Thursday evening.
Mr Pitt said yesterday he felt he had to resign and apologised for an "isolated incident" that has ended a police career spanning more than 30 years. "It was a grave error of judgement, which has caused embarrassment to me, my family and Cleveland police," he said.
Mr Pitt was one of two Cleveland officers seconded to Lithuania to advise on training anti-corruption investigators. Mr Shaw has written to the Lithuanian authorities to apologise.
