Man denies attempted murder of police officer hit by car in Coventry
PC Chris Burnham suffered a fractured skull and shattered knee, court hears
A man has denied trying to kill a police officer after allegedly running him over in Coventry.
PC Chris Burnham, 48, was left in a critical condition after suffering a fractured skull and shattered knee.
Warwick Crown Court heard that he was hit by a car that failed to stop as he tried to pull it over on 25 September.
Tekle Lennox, 37, denied attempted murder and causing grievous bodily harm with intent to resist arrest.
The defendant, who admitted a charge of driving while disqualified, appeared in court from prison via a video link.
Mr Lennox, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody ahead of a trial scheduled for March next year.
PC Burnham, of West Midlands Police, was put in an induced coma after the incident but has since left hospital and thanked members of the public for their messages of support.
