A 17-year-old who died after being shot in the head has been named as Sharmaarke Hassan, Scotland Yard said today.

The teenager, from Camden, north London, was found with a gunshot wound in Gilbeys Yard, Camden, shortly after 11pm on Saturday night.

He was admitted to a north London hospital but died last night, police said.

Sharmaarke is the 15th teenager to die violently in London this year.

A post mortem will be held today at St Pancras mortuary and an inquest is expected to be opened and adjourned shortly.

Police said they were retaining an open mind over motive.

No arrests have been made.

Superintendent Paul Morris from Camden Borough Police said: "This is a shocking tragedy. We have stepped up patrols in the borough to reassure the community and specialist officers are investigating the incident.

"In addition, we are working closely with community groups to offer any other reassurance which we can."

Sharmaarke was shot the same day that Rob Knox was stabbed to death in an unconnected incident outside the Metro Bar in Sidcup, south-east London.

Rob was to play Marcus Belby in the forthcoming Harry Potter film.

His father, Colin Knox, described his son as "an angel on earth without wings" and said he was a "very positive guy" who could turn his hand to anything.

Unemployed Karl Bishop, of Beaver Lodge, Carlton Road, Sidcup, has been charged with his murder.

Two weeks ago 16-year-old Jimmy Mizen, who like Rob played for Sidcup Rugby Club, suffered fatal injuries after being attacked with a shard of glass in a bakery in Lee, south-east London.

Jake Fahri, 19, of Lee, is accused of his murder.
