Police today appealed to a man believed to be with a missing 13-year-old girl he met on the internet to let them know she is safe.

Teagan Feakins, 13, was last seen at 7.30pm on Friday in the Babbacombe road area of Torquay.

She is understood to have met James Grenfell, 22, from Braintree, Essex, who travelled on public transport.

Mr Grenfell and the teenager are thought to have met online, but despite "extensive" enquiries their whereabouts is unknown.

Devon and Cornwall police today asked the pair to make contact as soon as possible, adding that the girl's disappearance was "out of character".

The force said it had no evidence that specific harm has come to her but said it was "increasingly concerned" for her welfare.

In a direct message to Mr Grenfell, Detective Inspector Sam de Reya said today: "We understand that you might be trying to work out what to do next, that you've got yourself into a situation that has got out of hand.

"When you thought about meeting up with Teagan, you probably didn't expect to see or hear an appeal like this.

"We need to know that Teagan is safe. We would ask that you telephone the police or a trusted friend or family member and let us know your whereabouts as soon as possible.

"We would also ask any members of the public who might know either Teagan or James' whereabouts to come forward and contact police as soon as possible."

Teagan's family did not speak at the press conference in Exeter today.

A dedicated team at Torquay Police Station is working on locating Teagan and James.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0800 0560 154.
