Police appeal for witnesses to Fiennes's crash

Sir Ranulph Fiennes is being investigated over claims he caused a three-car crash after falling asleep at the wheel. The explorer allegedly nodded off and his Jaguar veered into an oncoming car, whose driver broke his leg.

The 66 year old, the oldest Briton to reach the summit of Mount Everest, was left "dazed" after his Jaguar hit a Nissan Micra travelling in the opposite direction on the A6 in Stockport, Greater Manchester.

Two people travelling in the Nissan, including a five year old, were injured. Sir Ranulph, who had entered to take part in the gruelling 42-mile High Peak Marathon in Derbyshire the night before, may have fallen asleep at the wheel. No arrests were made.
