A pensioner returned home to find a naked man soaking in his bath with a drink.

After he called the police and confronted the man, the naked raider fled down the street in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, leaving his clothes in a pile in the bathroom.

In what police called a “highly unusual episode”, the man made himself a drink before climbing into the bath at the property in the Longton area of the city.

Officers arrested a 36-year-old man, of no fixed address, on suspicion of burglary. He was taken into custody but no further action was taken.

Staffordshire Police said “following an assessment, the man’s safeguarding needs were addressed”.

Chief Inspector Karen Stevenson, commander for the force’s Stoke South local policing team, said: “This was a highly unusual episode and not one we see every day.

“I’d like to reassure local residents that this was a completely isolated incident and there’s no reason to be alarmed.”
