A paramedic was knocked down by a thief who stole his car and drove at him as he was tending to road crash victims.

The medic, who has not been named, who works for the Northwest Ambulance Service was helping at the scene of a crash in Birkenhead, Merseyside, on 28 July.

The paramedic saw the thief get into his car, and stood in front of it to try to stop the man driving off. But the thief accelerated at the paramedic, knocking him down.

Detective Constable Sarah Casement said: "An attack such as this, on a paramedic who was helping an other at the scene of a traffic collision, is despicable."
