A paramedic was today cleared of killing his baby son but found guilty of causing him grievous bodily harm on an earlier occasion.
Gavin Gibbs was found not guilty of the murder of three-month-old Charlie following an Old Bailey trial.
He was also cleared of causing grievous bodily harm to little boy's twin sister. He will be sentenced this afternoon.
The 41-year-old of Brook Vale, Erith, Kent, looked close to tears as the verdicts were returned.
Gibbs was heard to whisper "Please forgive me" as Charlie's life support machine was turned off in hospital, the court heard.
But he said he was saying sorry because he had not been able to save the child from dying in October 2008.
"I said to Charlie 'Please forgive me, I tried my best'. I tried to save him," he told jurors.
