A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a seven-week-old boy, police said.

The two, aged 23 and 20 and from Northampton, were arrested following the death of Jamie Kightley, of London Road, Far Cotton, last month.

A spokeswoman for Northamptonshire Police said he died on Saturday, March 17. Initial findings suggest he died as a result of a head injury, but tests are ongoing.

The two people arrested in connection with his death have been bailed pending further inquiries.

The force spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that two arrests have been made by officers in the East Midlands special operations unit for major crime.

"A 23-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, both from Northampton, were arrested on suspicion of the murder of a seven-week old baby."

The arrests were made on March 22.

An inquest is due to be opened and adjourned tomorrow into the circumstances of the death.
