Oxford murder: Man dies after being hit by vehicle and stabbed several times

Twenty-two-year-old victim died a week after he was attacked

A murder investigation has been launched in Oxford after a man who was hit by a vehicle and stabbed several times died.

A 22-year-old man, from Southampton, was attacked in Ridgefield Road at about 11.20pm last Wednesday, 27 February.

He was rushed to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford but died a week later, on Wednesday evening.

Appealing for witnesses, Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Blaik of the Thames Valley Police Major Crime Unit said: “We believe the incident started at approximately 11.20pm in Ridgefield Road before moving into Southfield Road and involved a number of people.

“Sadly, the injuries sustained by the victim have proved fatal, and a murder investigation has been launched.

“I am continuing to appeal for any witnesses who may have seen what happened, or have any information about this incident to contact us.

“I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have mobile phone, CCTV or dash-cam footage to get in touch.”

Police in east London also launched a murder inquiry on Wednesday after a man was stabbed to death in Leyton.

The victim, believed to be in his mid-20s, was found with knife wounds in North Birbeck Road at about 4.26pm and died at the scene a short while later.

The stabbing in Leyton came on the same day a 17-year-old boy charged with the murder of Yousef Makki, also 17, appeared at Manchester youth court.

Yousef was stabbed to death in the Hale Barns area of Greater Manchester on Saturday.

A male suspect was also arrested in Leicester on Tuesday in connection with the murder of 17-year-old Jodie Chesney, who was stabbed to death at a children’s play park in Harold Hill, Romford, east London, on Friday.
