Police have launched a murder investigation after a man died after being kicked off his bike in Oxford city centre.

Eamonn Anderson, 56, was cycling on Oxford High Street at around 11.30pm on 25 October when he was approached by six young men. One kicked him, causing him to fall and hit the ground.

Witnesses called an ambulance and the group left. Mr Anderson sustained serious head injuries and died two weeks later at John Radcliffe Hospital.

The senior investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Mike Lynch, of Thames Valley Police, said: “This was a violent attack, which initially left the victim with serious head injuries, and has now tragically led to his death.

“We believe this to have been an isolated incident. Since it happened, we have been in the process of conducting a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances and to arrest those responsible. I would like to appeal for anyone who has any information about this assault to contact us on 101. If you were in this group and have information, please speak to officers.

“Similarly, I would like to appeal for anyone who has might have any footage of the incident to contact us.”
