A man in his 50s has been arrested after a woman was found dead in the grounds of Norwich Cathedral.

Police officers were called to the scene at around 11.50pm on Sunday.

The woman, believed to be in her late 30s, was treated by paramedics but pronounced dead.

Her death has been described as “unexplained” by Norfolk Police.

“The area has been sealed off while officers continue to carry out enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding her death,” the force said in a statement on its website.

The arrested man remains in custody at Aylsham police investigation centre and is set to be questioned.

Police have not disclosed what he has been arrested on suspicion of.
