Man killed in north London shooting
Killing comes as the Metropolitan Police recorded its highest monthly number of violent deaths so far this year
A man in his 20s has been killed in a shooting in north London.
Officers and paramedics were called to Beaconsfield Road, Edmonton, at around 9pm on Wednesday, Scotland Yard said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Enfield Borough MPS said in a tweet: “Police are on scene following a fatal shooting on Beaconsfield Road, N9, at approx. 21:00hrs. Despite efforts of officers and paramedics, a man in his mid-20s was pronounced dead at the scene. A crime scene has been put in place. There have been no arrests. Enquiries continue.”
The killing comes as the Metropolitan Police recorded its highest monthly number of violent deaths so far this year, and a week after three teenagers were shot in Haringey, north London.
The force has recorded 16 homicides so far in July, while figures on its crime data website show there were nine in June and eight in May.
In March and April the figure was slightly above average, with 12 homicides recorded in each month, up from seven in February and 11 in January.
