The former TV host John Leslie has been questioned by police in connection with a sexual assault on a 22-year-old woman, it has been reported.

Several newspapers have named the former Blue Peter, This Morning and Wheel of Fortune presenter in connection with the alleged incident.

The alleged sexual assault is said to have taken place on Thursday night and into the early hours of Friday morning, according to the Mirror.

The allegation has reportedly led to Mr Leslie being suspended from his job as a presenter on Radio Forth.

He previously lost a job presenting This Morning with Fern Britton after an image of him appearing to snort cocaine appeared in the News of the World.

He was cleared in 2003 of assaulting a 23-year-old in 1997, and also cleared of an allegation of rape in 2008.

The alleged sexual assault on Thursday evening reportedly followed an event at Edinburgh's Usher Hall, after which many guests went on to party at a nightclub.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police in Edinburgh are investigating a report of a sexual assault of a 22-year-old woman, which took place between the evening of Thursday 19 November and the morning of Friday 20 November in Edinburgh.

"Inquiries are currently ongoing."

Mr Leslie, who has not been arrested or charged with any offence, returned to his home around 10pm on Saturday night and declined to comment on the allegations, the Daily Telegraph reported.

Police were photographed removing evidence bags from Mr Leslie's home in Morningside in Edinburgh.

He has been presenting an afternoon show on local radio station Forth 2, but is understood to have been suspended following the allegation.

A spokeswoman for Forth 2 parent company Bauer Media said the company will not comment on the reports, but it is understood one of its DJs has been taken off the air.

Mr Leslie was a prominent face on British television during the 1990s, presenting Blue Peter and Wheel of Fortune.
