Newcastle council worker charged with voyeurism and child pornography offences after allegedly hiding cameras in public places
A council worker has been charged with voyeurism and making indecent images of children in offences alleged to involve hiding cameras in public places.
Northumbria Police said Liam Gormley, 32, from Blyth, Northumberland, has appeared in court charged with 29 offences believed to relate to changing rooms.
His employer, Newcastle City Council, issued a statement saying colleagues who were identified as potential alleged victims were being offered counselling.
Gormley appeared before South East Northumberland Magistrates' Court last Tuesday charged with offences relating to voyeurism, possessing, making and distributing indecent images of children, and possessing extreme pornography.
He was granted conditional bail to appear before the same court in September.
A Newcastle City Council spokesman said: "We can confirm that a Newcastle City Council employee has been suspended without prejudice following his arrest in connection with allegations of voyeurism and making indecent images of children.
"The council is cooperating fully with Northumbria Police in relation to this matter. A man has been charged.
"All staff who have been identified as potential victims of alleged offences are being notified by the police, and provided with counselling and support. Their well being is our top priority."
