Two brothers have been charged with murdering a man who allegedly tried to break into their family home armed with a gun on New Year’s Day.

Mark Casey, a 50-year-old man from Leeds, was pronounced dead at a house in Rosgill Drive after being found with a head injury.

Armed police had been called at around 4.30am to reports of a man with a gun and recovered a firearm at the scene.

Brothers Ian Ward, 27, and Daniel Ward, 19, have been charged with murder and were due to appear at Leeds Magistrates’ Court.

A 36-year-old man from Leeds was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery in relation to the same incident and remains in custody.
