Supermodel Naomi Campbell was removed by police from a BA flight at Heathrow this afternoon.

Passengers reported that she was aggressive and abusive to staff.

Campbell, 37, is known for her fiery temper but has recently been trying to change her image.

A Heathrow spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that a passenger was removed by police from a BA flight this afternoon."

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "At 17.11 we were alerted to a disturbance at Terminal 5 where officers attended. Subsequently a 37-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and taken to Heathrow police station."

Witnesses said Campbell was cuffed on board the aircraft, which had not taken off from Terminal 5. Passengers alleged the supermodel was rude to staff and police and it is thought there had been an issue with Campbell's luggage.

Last year the Streatham-born model had to mop floors at New York's Sanitation Department as a community service punishment for throwing a mobile phone at her maid.

She spent five days mopping, sweeping and scrubbing toilets and wrote: "I find solace in sweeping. I have the time to think. Just have, you know, peace."

She said she was considering therapy.
