Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a woman was found stabbed to death in north London.

Police were called on Thursday evening to reports of concerns for the well-being of a woman, believed to be aged in her 50s, to an address in Muswell Hill.

Police have not yet revealed the identity of the woman whose body was discovered when they arrived at the address in Hill Road, but said a post-mortem gave the provisional cause of death as stab injuries.

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating.

A statement from the Metropolitan Police said detectives retained an open mind as to the motive.

There have been no arrests and enquiries continue to establish the circumstances of the death.

Anyone with information is asked to call the incident room on 020 8785 8244, or contact the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
