A murder investigation has been launched after the discovery of a woman's body.

The body of the woman, believed to be 69-years-old, was found at an address in Aitken Road, Barnet, north London, in the early hours of this morning after officers forced their way into the property.

Scotland Yard said next-of-kin were aware and a post-mortem examination would be scheduled.

A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and has been taken into custody at a north London police station, police said.

A Scotland Yard statement said: “Enquiries continue, led by detectives from the homicide and major crime command.

“At this early stage, officers are not seeking any further suspects in connection with the incident.”
