Pop star Rachel Stevens was robbed of jewellery by three muggers who followed her home, it emerged today.

The three men ambushed the former S Club 7 singer yesterday afternoon as she entered her flat in north London, making her hand over several items.

The haul reportedly included an engagement ring, a necklace and a Rolex watch.

A spokesman for Stevens, 31, who came second in last year's Strictly Come Dancing show, described the experience as "distressing".

She is engaged to actor Alex Bourne, with their wedding planned for this summer.

According to The Sun, police are probing whether the gang had been following Stevens' movements during a shopping trip. She was attacked at around 4pm.

Scotland Yard said: "It's believed the woman returned to her flat and was followed in to the premises by three males.

"The suspects are understood to have threatened her before making off with a quantity of jewellery."

One of the robbers was white and the two others were black, police said.

The attack is being investigated by Camden Robbery Squad.

Anyone with information is asked to call 020 7404 1212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

S Club 7 racked up 11 Top 40 hits, including chart toppers Reach and Don't Stop Movin'. They called it a day in 2002 and Stevens became a solo singer.
