A 13-year-old boy has been killed after a car crashed into him while he was riding a fold-up scooter.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the collision involving a BMW happened on Sandy Road in Plymouth at 8.20pm on Wednesday.

The boy was later pronounced dead at Derriford hospital.

Officers have arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

“His next of kin have been informed of this incident,” a police spokesman said.

He added: “A 29-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

“The road was closed while a forensic examination was conducted.

“Officers specialised in the investigation of road traffic collisions attended the scene from across the force.

“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision.”
