A serving Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with raping and assaulting girls as young as 15 in attacks spanning more than a decade.

PC Adam Provan, of Gidea Park, has been suspended from duty with the east area command unit based in Barking and Dagenham.

The 38-year-old has been charged with one count of indecent assault relating to an incident in 2002 with a girl who was aged 15 at the time.

Mr Provan has also been charged with two counts of raping a 16-year-old girl in 2010 and four counts of raping a third alleged victim who was 20 last year.

Mr Provan was remanded in custody ahead of a hearing due at Barkingside Magistrates' Court later today.
