A man has been arrested after a cyclist was killed in a road crash.

The 29-year-old man, from Kent, died on the coastbound carriageway of the A2 in Boughton, near to Gate services, at about 7.40pm yesterday when he was hit by a silver Vauxhall Meriva, Kent Police said.

The Kent Police serious collision investigation unit has appealed for witnesses to the incident or who saw the cyclist, who was riding a bright yellow bike, or the car before the crash, to contact them.

The coastbound carriageway of the A2, from Brenley at junction seven of the M2 to the slip road for Canterbury, was closed until the early hours of this morning.

A 50-year-old man from Whitstable, Kent, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is in police custody.

Witnesses should call Kent Police on 01622 798538.
