Maxine Carr taken to hospital

Maxine Carr, accused of perverting the course of justice following the deaths of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, was being treated in hospital today.

Carr, 25, of Soham, Cambridgeshire, was being held on remand in Holloway jail, North London when she was taken into an outside hospital yesterday.

Her partner Ian Huntley, 28, also of Soham, has been accused of murdering the girls and of conspiring with Carr to pervert the course of justice.

A spokesman for the Prison Service said: "We can confirm a prisoner from Holloway Prison has been taken to an outside hospital for medical treatment.

"We cannot discuss individual prisoners or their confidential medical details."

But a spokeswoman for The Whittington Hospital in North London said last night: "I can confirm Maxine Carr is in The Whittington Hospital. She is in a stable condition. We cannot give any further details."

Carr, a classroom assistant, was refused bail by a judge at Norwich Crown Court on Monday.

Holly and Jessica went missing on August 4 after being seen walking near their homes in Soham. Their bodies were found in a ditch at Lakenheath, Suffolk, on August 17.

The hospital is just two miles away from the women's prison where Carr is being held pending trial.

Huntley is being held at Woodhill Prison, Buckinghamshire, from where he was transferred from Rampton High Security Hospital in Nottinghamshire earlier this month. He is yet to enter a plea to the charges of murdering the girls.
