Maxine Carr's mother on intimidation charge
The mother of Maxine Carr, the woman charged in connection with the deaths of the schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, will appear before magistrates today accused of intimidating a witness.
Shirley Capp, 60, of Grimsby, north-east Lincolnshire, is due to appear before magistrates in Grimsby and Cleethorpes.
A Cambridgeshire Police spokeswoman last night said Mrs Capp had been charged by Humberside Police on Sunday. It is believed the alleged incident took place in the past week.
"We can confirm that we are aware that a woman who lives in Grimsby who is a witness in the investigation into the deaths of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman has complained to police that she has been intimidated," said the spokeswoman.
Holly and Jessica, both 10, vanished on 4 August last year. Their bodies were found two weeks later near Lakenheath, Suffolk. Ms Carr, 26, a former teaching assistant, denies assisting an offender and conspiring to pervert the course of justice. Ian Huntley, 29, a former school caretaker, denies murdering the two girls.
