Police are appealing for information regarding an "extremely distressing" attack where a clubber woke to find himself being raped on Brighton beach.

The 26-year-old woke as he was being raped by another man, The Argus reported.

The incident took place between 3.30am and 5am on Tuesday 18 August, near the outdoor cinema screen by the Brighton Wheel, as the man was drifting in and out of consciousness.

After the attack the victim walked to a Co-Op where he rang for an ambulance.

Detective Constable Kelly Ward said: "We have been working with the victim to give him support and work out exactly what happened.

"He is unable to describe what the man looked like and we have been looking at the CCTV in that area and we have not been able to identify a suspect.

"This was an extremely distressing incident for this man who was in a vulnerable state."

Anyone with information or who may have seen suspicious activity near the wheel or the cinema during the early hours of that day should contact 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting serial 146 of August 18.
