A man in his 50s has been shot dead in the street in Maidstone, Kent.

The victim was found with a suspected gunshot wound after police were called to Cambridge Crescent at 10.43am on Sunday.

Paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another man, who is from the local area and is also aged in his 50s, was arrested on suspicion of murder.

A firearm has been recovered by officers.

Kent Police have launched a murder investigation.

The force said in a statement: “Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact the appeal line on 01622 604100 quoting reference 17-0574.

“Alternatively contact the independent charity Crimestoppers in Kent anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
