A man accused of trying to access bank accounts of an engineer's family the day after he was murdered in the French Alps was remanded in custody today.

Nigerian-born Abiodun David John, 33, is charged with eight counts of fraud by false representation after allegedly trying to get into accounts in the name of Saad al-Hilli before and after his death on September 5.

John, from Salford, was denied bail today at Redhill Magistrates' Court, in Surrey, by magistrate Tim Prideaux until another hearing in four weeks.

Mr al-Hilli was murdered along with his wife, his mother and a passing cyclist in a gun attack near Chevaline, Lake Annecy.
