A man was under arrest today after police found a decapitated body at a house.

The grim discovery was made after officers were called to an address in Parkhill Avenue in Crumpsall, Manchester, at around 9.20pm yesterday.

They arrested the 31-year-old suspect, who is understood to suffer mental illness, on suspicion of murder.

The headless victim has not been formally identified by police but is believed to be in his 60s.

The two men are thought to be neighbours.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said a post-mortem examination is due to take place later.
