Police have charged a man with the murder of an 84-year-old woman discovered dead in her home and the attempted murder of a nine year-old boy found stabbed in a skate park.

Nathaniel Flynn, 26, will appear at Bradford Magistrates Court on Friday morning accused of stabbing to death retired teacher Louise Denby in Shipley, West Yorkshire, and attacking a nine year-old boy at the Carnegie skate park.

West Yorkshire police said Mr Flynn would also answer charges of possessing an offensive weapon and assault in relation to an attack on a 59-year-old man with an iron bar in nearby Idle. All of the incidents happened on Monday.

Four other people arrested on suspicion of Mrs Denby's murder have been released on police bail.

Mrs Denby was described by neighbours as a “lovely woman” and “everyone's grandmother” as news of her death spread. David Cameron even spoke during Prime Minister's Questions in Parliament of his shock at the attack.

Police said that the boy stabbed at the skate park was in a “stable condition” with injuries to his chest and arm.
