Man charged with murder of pregnant woman
A man has been charged following the murder of a pregnant woman who was stabbed to death in the middle of the afternoon as she walked to work. Claire Wilson, 21, died after being attacked near Grimsby town centre on Sunday.
She was seven months' pregnant with her first child and attempts by doctors to save the baby failed. Last night, police charged 53-year-old Alan McMullan with murder. He is due to appear at Grimsby magistrates' court today.
Ms Wilson was 200 yards away from Pizza Hut, where she worked as a waitress, and was going there to start her shift. The attack has been described by police as "completely random". Yesterday, flowers were laid at the spot where she was stabbed.
The scene was visited by friends and relatives throughout the day. Among them was her boyfriend, named locally as Adam Kennard, 23, who left a balloon alongside the floral tributes. It is believed the pair had been seeing each other for seven years.
Officers investigating the incident are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
