John Keenan died after an 'altercation' in Whitechapel
A man has been charged with murdering a man at a New Year's Eve party in east London.
John Keenan was found with a serious head injury at a home in Sidney Street, Whitechapel, shortly after 1.30am yesterday. The 43-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
A post-mortem examination found Mr Keenan died from a brain injury following an assault.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “At this early stage it is understood that an altercation has taken place during a private party at the address, and that the victim and those arrested are known to each other.”
Terry Hamer, 34, of Newbold Cottages, Sidney Street, has been charged with murder and will appear at Thames Magistrates' Court tomorrow.
A 25-year-old woman who was also arrested on suspicion of murder has been bailed to return to an east London police station on a date in early February pending further inquiries.
