A computer programmer has been charged under the Terrorism Act with allegedly collecting information that could be used by terrorists.

Mohammed Abdullah Azam, 32, from Luton, Bedfordshire, was charged last night, having been arrested on Sunday. He is due to appear at Bow Street magistrates' court in central London today.

Two 21-year-old men and a man aged 23 who were also arrested under the Terrorism Act in Luton on Sunday were released yesterday.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said Mr Azam had been charged under Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000 that he allegedly collected information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism or had in his possession documents or records containing information of that kind.

On 6 September, David Veness, the head of Scotland Yard's anti-terrorist squad, said there was no known specific threat to Britain and he called on people to carry on with "business as usual".
