A 67-year-old man is fighting for his life after he was hit by a taxi near an airport terminal.
The man was making his way to Gatwick Airport when he suffered extensive injuries to his head and body in the collision on the south perimeter road near the Welcome to Gatwick roundabout shortly after 5am today, Sussex Police said.
A spokeswoman said the man, from Kent, has been transferred to St George's Hospital, in Tooting, London.
The 53-year-old driver of the blue VW taxi and his two passengers were uninjured, she added.
Sergeant Peter Verney, from Sussex Police roads policing unit, said: "The road into the South Terminal was closed for four-and-a-half hours and I would like to thank drivers for their patience and understanding whilst the casualty was attended to and the scene of the collision forensically examined."
Anyone with information or who witnessed the collision should call Sussex Police 101, quoting Operation Albrook.
