A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody for questioning.
The park, a sprawling green space on the edge of Manchester, popular with families and joggers, was closed to the public.
Superintendent Julian Snowball, of north Manchester division, said: "I want to reassure residents and park users that we have had a large, high-visibility police presence in the area.
"The park remains closed to the public while we continue our investigations.
