A 45-year-old man today denied murdering policeman Keith Blakelock during the Broadwater Farm Estate riot 28 years ago.

Nicholas Jacobs, who was 16 at the time of the killing, is accused of being part of a mob that attacked the married-father-of-three as he tried to protect firefighters tackling a supermarket blaze during the riot.

Mr Jacobs, from Hackney, north east London, today at the Old Bailey pleaded not guilty to murdering the constable on October 6, 1985. A trial is scheduled to start early next year.
