An 88-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police were called to a home in Torquay, Devon, last week where they found a couple in their eighties suffering from life-threatening injuries. Both were admitted to Torbay Hospital. The 82-year-old woman died there on Monday.

The man, who has not been named, was arrested on Tuesday and released on police bail until 7 December.

Police refused to confirm the nature of the couple's injuries but said they were treating it as a suspected failed suicide attempt.
