A 14-year-old boy has been arrested after a teenage girl was stabbed on a high street in Kent.

Police were called to reports that a 15-year-old girl has been assaulted in Mill Street, Maidstone, at 9.05pm on 31 August, 2016.

The girl was treated by paramedics for a cut to her side.

The boy has been arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of a knife.

He has been held in police custody.

The girl's injury was not believed to be serious.

In a statement, Kent Police said: "A number of other people were in the area at the time, however following enquiries there are not believed to have been any other offences.

"Officers are not looking for any other people in connection with the assault."
